What is Tartan Flooring?

The tartan floor, which is no stranger to those who are interested in sports, is a water-permeable sports floor consisting of two layers in total, SBR granule and EPDM. Common usage areas are; tennis courts, basketball courts, athletics tracks, jogging and warm-up areas at the edges of football fields, indoor and outdoor sports halls and children’s playgrounds.

Due to the softness of the ground and the ease of movement, its usage areas have expanded in recent years. It is seen that tartan flooring is preferred especially in the walking and jogging areas, which are built by the municipalities, as well as the sports fields. Having a pleasant color in terms of general appearance is another reason for preference.

As for the structural features, SBR granule is applied to the lower part of the tartan floor and EPDM is applied to the upper part. The thickness of the tartan floor, which can be applied to all indoor and outdoor spaces that require both a soft floor feeling and an aesthetic appearance, is prepared as a minimum of 13 millimeters. One of the most important reasons why it is preferred in sports fields is that it is not affected by hot and cold bad weather conditions, and it is a durable floor that can be used for a long time without deterioration.

It is preferred on athletics tracks due to its water permeable structure. Thanks to its water permeable structure on rainy days, the water falling on the ground does not accumulate on the ground. Thus, athletes can continue their sports with full performance without encountering unfavorable ground conditions. Therefore, tartan flooring is applied in the same way in walking and running areas. In addition to these, the tartan floor offers the option of doing activities such as tournaments and races for athletes even in rainy weather.

One of the most important advantages that makes the tartan floor so common is that it is nature friendly. None of the materials used in it contain harmful substances. Therefore, it is the most suitable ground for both nature and human health.

The tartan floor materials applied for athletics tracks are approved by the International Athletics Federation Association. In the same way, after the tartan floor application process for the athletics track, the delivery process is carried out to the owner of the ground or field after the approval of the Athletics Federation. Therefore, the tartan floor, which is fully guaranteed, can be expressed as a product that can be used for many years without encountering any problems.

How Is Tartan Floor Made?

Before starting the tartan sport floor covering price construction, the appropriate ground is determined and the preparations for the application are started. Gravel is poured on the prepared soil floor. Then, before starting the tartan floor application, either asphalt or concrete is optionally placed on the gravel ground.

If we list the tartan floor application step by step;

The granular layers are mixed hot with a tool known as a bulk binder, also known as a binder.
After the mixing process is completed, the black SBR granule, which is one of the two layers of the tartan floor, is applied to the floor as the first layer.
Colored EPDM granule is applied as the top layer after the SBR granule applied as it will remain on the lower part.

The tile color, which is generally familiar to the eye, is preferred for EPDM granules. As a casting method, in situ casting application is mostly preferred. Because, thanks to in-situ casting, the layers adhere well to each other, preventing cracking and slipping and providing good ground adherence.

Since the in-situ casting process is hot casting, the floor must be left to cool for a while after the casting process is finished. After the cooling process is completed, the tartan floor is ready for use in all weather conditions.
